Ubuntu 22.04 で Emacs 29.1 をpgtk ビルドでインストール

今回はUbuntu 22.04 LTS時点のWayland上で各種アプリケーションを快適に動作させる勘所を紹介します。

上記の記事を読んでいて、EmacsがWaylandに対応しているのか気になりました。

29.1からはpgtk(Pure GTK)のビルドに対応しているということなので、これを試してみます。

x11ビルドでは、たまにEmacsがgtkのバグであるという捨て台詞を残して落ちるときがあるので、これで改善されていることを期待します。

手順

ソースコードの取得

$ git clone --depth 1 --branch emacs-29.1 git://git.savannah.gnu.org/emacs.git emacs-29.1

ビルドに必要なツールとライブラリの取得

$ sudo apt install autoconf make texinfo gnutls-bin libgccjit-10-dev gcc
$ sudo apt install zlib1g-dev \

Makefileの生成

(追記) 最初、下記のようにconfigureしていたのですが、–with-mailutils を使うようお勧めされたので、上記に変更しました。

pgtkを有効にしない場合は “What window system should Emacs use?” が “x11” でしたが、これが “pgtk” になります。 また、その他いくつかの項目が”no”または空欄となりました。

表示




pgtkが無効(x11)の場合には、下記のようなウィンドウ(フレーム)でした。

pgtkバージョンでは少し違っており、最小化、最大化のボタンがなく、クローズボタンのみ左側にあります。

これが、Gnome(Wayland)の機能でウィンドウを表示している証拠であり、gnome-tweaks (apt install gnome-tweaks でインストールできます)の設定によって下記のように変更することができました。

設定






WSL上のEmacsからWindowsへコピー＆ペーストができるようにする




しばらく快適に使っていたのですが、WSL上のEmacsからWindowsへコピー＆ペーストができなくなっていることに気づきました。

上記ページを参考に下記のように設定し、コピー＆ペーストができるようになりました。


wl-clipboardをインストールします。




$ sudo apt install wl-clipboard





ここでは、featurep で pgtk が有効であることを確認し、wl-copy 及び wl-paste が実行可能であることを確認してから設定するようにしています。

Emacs起動時のWarning




こちらも上記引用ページからですが、確かに起動時に下記のWarningが出ていました。

adwaita-icon-theme-full をインストールし、dark テーマを設定しました。




$ sudo apt install adwaita-icon-theme-full







export GTK_THEME=Adwaita:dark





カッコいい！！

タスクバーやスタートメニューのアイコンがペンギンのまま






$ sudo vi /usr/local/share/applications/emacs.desktop





下記のようになっています。

各種サイズのアイコンが格納されているソースディレクトリに移動します。

下記メッセージが表示されてしまうのはご愛嬌ということで・・・

cp: cannot stat 'scalable/apps/emacs.png': No such file or directory
